I believe the author Luke, wants his readers to see clearly Jesus’ compassion and love expressed to both persons with Him on the Emmaus Road. However, only one of Jesus’ followers is named in Luke’s (Luke 24:13-35) story.

I believe both Cleopas and the person (presumably his wife Mary), is being seriously tested. Luke 24:31 says, “Their eyes were opened, and they knew Him (Jesus), and He vanished out of their sight. Perhaps Luke wanted to illuminate this point, and thought naming the second person wasn’t the importance.

Who was the unnamed person on the Emmaus road, we do not know for sure. But, one thing we do know for sure Jesus reveals Himself on that journey as the resurrected Savior and Lord.
